April 19 & 20- Uintah Tournament- Vernal

The Carbon tennis team traveled to Vernal to participate in the Uintah Invitational, a two-day tournament with seven teams from throughout the state. After two days of competition, Carbon finished in third place with a 4-2 record.

The Dinos have three matches left before the Region 12 Tournament on May 7 in Mount Pleasant.

On the opening day, Carbon got started with Morgan, the Dinos came away with a four matches to one advantage. The high drama came in the 1st doubles match when Josiah Trostle and Judson Varner had to push the limits to get their win over Morgan’s Luke Wilson and Jackson Flitton, with the Dino pair coming away with the 9-8(10-8) win.

Next up was the team from San Juan High School. Carbon earned a clean sweep of the Broncos in every match taking the 5-0 win.

The final matches of day one were against host team Uintah, and after blanking San Juan in the matches before, the Dinos couldn’t get a foothold in any matches against the Utes as they were handed a 5-0 loss.

First up on Saturday morning was Union High School. The rest from the night before must have helped because Carbon was able to come away with the 3-2 win. In 1st singles, Nicholas Bryner came away with a tight 8-6 win over Cache Bertoch. Cameron Jones won his 3rd singles match over Boston Bennett by the same score.

The Delta Rabbits were the second team the Dinos took on earning a 4-1 win. Trostle and Varner’s 1st doubles match came to an exciting end as they earned a hard-fought 9-8 win over Delta’s Johnny Covey and Joesph Burrows.

The final match of the weekend came against South Sevier. Carbon had a rough outing against the Rams. Earning just two wins in 1st doubles as Bryner earned an 8-4 win over Logan Bergfeld, and Trostle and Varner once again kept things interesting in their 9-7 win over Carter Johnson and James Gray.
