006-12

The Carbon boy’s volleyball team finished their inaugural season on May 11 at the hands of Salt Lake Academy in the 3A State Championship in the quarterfinal loss round at Utah Valley University. Boy’s volleyball was a new sanctioned sport in 2024 and Carbon put forth a good first season ending 8-18 overall and 4-2 in region play finishing in second place.

Coach Landon Fehlberg was a guest on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports after the loss to Grantsville and was asked after battling with the No.1 team does this give Carbon the feeling that they belong?

” Yes, and that’s true I think from the beginning, when we went up and played a really tough tournament, the boys were kind of like well maybe let’s see how this season goes. After our first home match against Ogden, I told the boys that I didn’t necessarily expect us to go undefeated, but you don’t have to go undefeated to compete. And slowly after we got that first win we could see the mindset start to change. They have the mindset of we do belong, we do win, and we can win, we can do and play volleyball. From a coaching perspective, even when they lose, you want them to see their improvement and I think that is just a testament to just how much these boys have grown this season.”

Below is a recap of the 2024 season.

“Going into the third set (against North Sanpete) it’s tough when you’ve kind of given what you felt like you were doing good before, and could not necessarily get a serve received that we wanted to, and North Sanpete I’ll give credit to them. they played a game of consistency. And that’s one thing that they have had going into the season is that they have had a club team for quite a few years. ” Felberg added that even though things haven’t gone like they wanted to, this team continues to push forward and keep going.
