Bryce Reed Brasher, age 85, passed away June 2, 2024 due to injuries resulting from an accident that occurred on May 27th, 2024, where he received 3rd-degree burns on over 22% of his body.

He was born July 31, 1938 in Huntington, Utah to William Reed and Della Louise Brown Brasher. He graduated from North Emery High in 1957 and soon after enlisted with the US Army in June of 1957. Bryce completed his basic training at Fort Ord, California. He was later transferred to Fort Lewis, Washington to train as a sharpshooter, where he received a good conduct medal. He served the remainder of his time in Fort Meade, Maryland in the Adjutant General’s Corps where they kept and managed all of the Army’s important documents and records. Bryce had a secret security clearance and worked in the records department until his release of duty in June of 1959.

After returning from active duty, he married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Easterbrook, on June 15, 1959 in Ruth, Nevada. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple on February 10, 1968. Bryce and Joyce eventually moved to Salt Lake City where he was a machinist at EIMCO. A few years later, they returned home to Emery County, where he worked at Cloverleaf Dairy until its closing. After the dairy closed, he went to work for UDOT where he was a field engineer.

In 1966, after his father’s passing, he purchased the family farm from his mother and became a partner at Jensen Equipment, selling farm equipment until Emery Mining opened the Deer Creek Mine; where he worked for 30 years. Bryce was a Vice President for several years at the Deer Creek Local #1769 and represented his Union at the Denver and Pittsburg Conventions.

Bryce was a good steward of the land and grew beautiful alfalfa crops. He loved watching his crops grow and caring for his animals. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many church callings including Sunday School Teacher, Elder Quorum President and Counselor, Ward Clerk, Senior President of the Seventy, Bishop, Family History Center Director, and was an assistant to the High Priest Group Leaders.

Bryce is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joyce Brasher; children, Myrna (Corey Powell), Suzanne Brasher-Anderson (Kurt – deceased), Joye (Cory) Wilcox, and Reed Brasher; along with eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and sisters, Lorie (Lee) McElprang and Vee Guymon.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Kurt Brasher; grandson, Jarom Powell; sister, Beverly Nielson; and two brothers-in-law, Dee Nielson and Courtney Guymon.

Graveside service Saturday, June 8, 2024, 1:00 p.m. at the Huntington City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Huntington and Price where friends and family are always welcome daily and may share memories of Bryce online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
