Summer is finally here, and with that comes the annual pie auction hosted by Castle Country Radio and KARB Kickin’ Country 98.3 and 106.7fm. We sat down with Ann Anderson, Office Manager for Castle Country Radio and one of the main organizers of the event.
Starting our conversation, Anderson discussed what the purpose of this auction is,” We hold the pie auction every June. What we do is we take about 50 pies that are donated by the community, and we auction them off on Kickin’ Country. All of the money that we raise from the auction goes into $100 fuel cards that we then give to residents in the Castle Valley area who need to travel for cancer treatments.”
Alongside the pies, an additional item is auctioned off as well. “We try to put something with every pie you’re bidding on. This year I’ve heard rumblings that some of the items include University of Utah football tickets as well as some other sporting event tickets. We also have some gift certificates from local businesses. Kickin’ Country’s pie is always exciting, especially with all the country concerts going on this summer, so we have a few concert tickets to auction off.” Anderson explained.
Anderson ended our interview by expressing gratitude toward the community for all they do and for helping make the pie auction what it is.” We just open the airwaves, they’re the ones who donate the pies and donate items to put with the pies. They’re also the ones who bid on the pies, and again we couldn’t do this without them. We’re just happy that 100% of this money goes back to the community through fuel cards and the Thomas B. Anderson college scholarship fund.”
For those who want to donate a pie or an item to the auction, call Castle Country Radio at 637-1167 and ask for Ann. And for those who are interested in bidding on a pie, the auction starts Wednesday, June 12 at 9 a.m. on KARB Kickin’ Country 98.3 and 106.7fm.
