Castle Country Radio had the opportunity to talk over the phone for our biweekly chat with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard. Commissioner Leonard talked about a wide variety of happenings within Emery County, including local celebrations coming up, the San Rafael Research Center, and the upcoming primary election.

Starting with city celebrations, Commissioner Leonard talked about a few that are coming up. “ On Friday, June 7, and Saturday, June 8, Castle Dale is hosting their June Jamboree. There’s activities like a youth rodeo and a bunch of other events.”

The next local celebration we talked about was Orangeville Days. “ Orangeville Days is being held on Friday, June 14, and Saturday, June 15. There’s always a lot of activities and fun at Orangeville Days.” Spoke Commissioner Leonard.

One more big event within Emery County is the upcoming Emery County Fair. And to celebrate this, Commissioner Leonard talked about an upcoming Business Chamber Luncheon that serves as a kickoff for the fair. “We’re holding a meeting on Wednesday, June 19, that serves as a kickoff to the fair.” Commissioner Leonard explained. “That event is going to be held at noon at Castle Dale City Hall”

After this we talked about an underappreciated aspect of the county, the San Rafael Research Center, and a few talks the commission has had regarding it. “The Research Center has been a bright spot in the county, and we’ve partnered with the state too because we want to make sure it continues to grow. We’ve also been in talks with a few businesses who want to buy some land directly north of the research center.”

The penultimate topic of discussion was the upcoming primary elections for the state, and Commissioner Leonard shared a simple message,” Get registered to vote and have your voice heard.”

To close out, we asked Commissioner Leonard if had any message to share, and he wanted the public to,” Have a good summer, get out and enjoy the activities across both Carbon and Emery Counties.”

The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3 p.m. at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
