The Helper Express Playground, which is a project to design and build an equal-access playground at 698 Castle Gate Road in Helper, Utah, received a mass influx of donations on Tuesday, June 11.
Things got started when the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation donated $25,000 to the project. The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation is a nonprofit organization based out of Millburn, New Jersey, that is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury through advancing research and improving the quality of life for individuals and families impacted by paralysis.
This donation comes through the organization’s Quality of Life Grants, which are awarded to organizations that impact and empower people living with paralysis, such as the Helper Express Playground.
This donation kicked off a boom from donors, as next it was Castleview Hospital helping fund the playground through a $6,000 donation. A statement given to Castle Country Radio from Castleview stated,” We are happy to serve and help the community in a multitude of ways beyond our four walls here.”
The George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation also got in on the fun, pitching in an additional $5,000 donation to the playground.
Rocky Mountain Power and WaFd Bank each contributed $2,500 as well to help advance the project.
Sen. David Hinkins also got in on the action, pitching in another donation of $2,500. “I’m just happy to help the community and help fund them to get safe equipment for the kids in the area.” Hinkin’s said when asked for a comment.
And then rounding out the donations was the Carbon High School Class of 1958, who gave $1,000 to the cause.
For those who want to get involved with the cause, a GoFundMe page is available which funds that are donated to will go to a PayPal Charity account which is linked to the group’s bank. Funds can also be donated through Venmo at @FriendsofHelper. To keep up to date with the project, you can follow the organization’s Facebook here.
