Saydee Davis of the USU Eastern rodeo team earned a top-10 finish in Barrell Racing at the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s College National Finals Rodeo, held over the weekend in Casper Wyoming. After finishing the first three rounds with a combined time of 42.81, and advancing to the “Short” round she finished the competition with a sixth-place finish collecting 75 points.

Davis, a freshman at USU Eastern this past season, participated in both Barrell Racing and Breakaway Roping. She traveled to Casper along with teammate Oaklee Giles, who missed the short round, landing in 29th place. Giles, also a freshman, secured the Reserve Region Champion title and was named Rookie Of The Year for the Rocky Mountain Region.

Davis put forth a time in the opening round of 14.33, which landed her in 14 place. In round two she she posted a 14.34, which would put her in 12 place in the round. Round three was her best time 14.14, pushing her to sixth, and earning her a spot in the short round where she finished in tenth with a time of 14.42, when all times were averaged landed her sixth overall in the competition with a total of 75.00.

Davis was also awarded Barrell Racing Rookie of the Year, and she will be a returning athlete representing USU Eastern next season.
