Castle Country Radio had Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard call in for our biweekly chat about all things Emery County.

Opening our conversation, Commissioner Leonard wanted to spotlight an organization within the county that has been going above and beyond their call of duty. “Let’s spotlight the Emery County School District.” Commissioner Leonard stated,” They’re looking to hire new principals and a new superintendent. And then due to some state legislation to keep kids safe in school, there has to be an armed employee as long as the kids are in school. That’s a heavy lift for our district and our Sheriff’s Office, so I wanted to give them a shoutout for the hard work they’re doing to protect our kids.”

After this, we talked about the San Rafael Research Center, and how the state would start taking over management duties starting July 1. “We approved that in our Commission meeting, so as of July 1, the State of Utah will help us manage the research center and start the transition to their ownership, so we’re excited about that.” Commissioner Leonard explained.

Next, we talked about some upcoming events within the county, namely the upcoming Huntington Heritage Days celebration.” It’s always a fun event, the rodeo and all the activities they host at Heritage Days. There’s always lots of good food and good entertainment.” Commissioner Leonard told us.

Rounding out our conversation, we asked Commissioner Leonard for any message for the public, with him replying,” We just want to do our best to support our community.”

The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3 p.m. at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
