Coming up on July 13 the #SaveThe Coach 3-on-3 soccer tournament will take place at the fields at the Carbon County Fairgrounds. The funds from the tournament will go to help Carbon soccer coach Chad Cowdell in his cancer battle.
Cowdell was diagnosed with stage three colorectal cancer in December of 2023. By the time of the tournament, he will have undergone 28 rounds of radiation treatment, and 9 rounds of IV chemotherapy, and will be waiting to find out if he needs surgery.
Emery High soccer coach Troy Winter and his family have organized the 3-0n-3 tournament and was recently a guest on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports to talk about it.
“Chad is a soccer advocate, he loves the game as well too, he was very happy to have this tournament take place” Winter also added, “We’ve had tons of support throughout our years here in Emery County and Carbon County as well through soccer, the soccer family is truly amazing in all the things that they do and all the things that they’re apart of. They buy in and they love us as coaches they love us as players, it’s a lot of fun. This is going to be an awesome cause and a great day. It is super important to realize that when somebody is going through a little bit of a hard time or a struggle in their life, the more support they get in that sure helps that fight that they’re going through.”
Registration is open now and will close on July 8. T-shirts are available for $15 if ordered before Friday, June 28. The games will start at 8:00 a.m., with check-in from 7:00-7:45, a mandatory meeting will begin at 7:45 also.
