A new week in summer means another concert as a part of Price Culture Connection. This week performing in Price City’s Washington Park is Davey and the Midnights, a band based in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Most recently in 2023, Davey and the Midnights released their freshman album “Unconventional Midwestern Country Music.” Castle Country Radio sat down with event organizer Lane Miller and Davey Allen, lead singer of the band, to talk about his upcoming performance in Price.

Opening our discussion, we asked Miller what we should expect from Davey and the Midnights,” We want to bring people and groups from all different genres. Peter (Breinholt) was easy listening, Cherie (Call) was easy listening, But I don’t think you’ll hear a lot of easy listening from Davey and the Midnights, and I’m excited.”

Allen, who has been performing for twenty years, spoke of his love for it,” I love playing music, it brings me joy and I love doing it.”

Allen also recounted one of his favorite tour memories, “ There’s this road that goes from Las Vegas to Carson City. It’s pretty lonely and they have all these wild donkeys everywhere. We were amazed so we pulled over to maybe get a picture. Just as I stepped out of our van I was nearly spearheaded by one of these wild donkeys running full speed at me, they don’t stop for anyone.”

Next, Allen discussed the band’s musical style and inspirations,” Our musical style is very fluid, but it’s primarily rooted in Americana music. Country is a big influence, my grandfather was a truck driver for 50-plus years, he loved country music, and he also loved yodeling, so that’s a big influence on us as well. I learned how to play music by playing in church, so there’s a gospel influence. And then I’m also just an enormous Bob Dylan fan.”

After this Allen talked about what those in attendance should be excited about. “ With our genre being so fluid, so are our shows. We don’t use a set-list, we take the vibe of the venue and the crowd and produce something from that and give it to the people. I think every show is unique and fun.”

We tossed it back to Miller to talk about some upcoming plans for Culture Connection, with their next event being on the Fourth of July,” We have partnered with Carbon County and we’re going to do two bands. First is a band called Mountain Country. The second band is Route 89 … We’ll have about an hour and a half of music, take a break, and then Route 89 will play through the fireworks.”

Closing out our conversation, both Allen and Miller shared a message for the public.” We’re excited to meet you all. Come on down and hang with us and let’s have a great event.” Allen stated. “ Remember, we’re in Washington Park, lots of shade, it’s a fabulous venue. Come enjoy the spot, enjoy the time and listen to some great music.” Miller shared.

Price Culture Connection is held Thursdays throughout the summer starting June 13th 7 p.m. and running until 8:30 p.m. in Washington Park. A full schedule of upcoming concerts in the Carbon County area can be found here.
