Castle Country Radio had the opportunity to sit down with Emery County Cat Rescue Founder John Murray to discuss the rescue and the organization’s Working Cat Program.
Opening up our conversation, Murray explained what the rescue is,” We are a 501-C-3 nonprofit based out of Emery County. We focus primarily on community cats and cats without homes. We do a trap, neuter, return (TNR) program as well as adoptions. We’re trying to get the population under control and trying to find homes for these cats because they didn’t ask to be in this situation.”
After this, Murray talked about the Working Cat Program,” To help with the community cats finding a place to live, we have been contacting ranchers, farmers and business owners to help find places for these cats to go. They have a purpose in society, they help with rodent control and other things so they can be very beneficial.”
Murray also shared the best ways to get in contact with the organization to participate in these programs or to volunteer in other ways, stating,” We can be reached on Facebook or at emerycatrescue@gmail.com.
Murray explained that inspections are still performed before the rescue will allow adoption, making sure that the cats will have water, shelter and food.
Closing out our conversation, Murray left the community with this message,” Be kind to community cats, they didn’t ask to be there. They’re just trying to survive like we are.”
