Our loving mother and grandmother, Mickey Rae (Johnson) Syndergaard, went “over the rainbow” to be with the love of her life, James “Bryce” Syndergaard, on July 3, 2024 after courageously battling a long-term illness for several years.
Mickey was born to Clarence Everett Johnson and Rhoana Tait on September 2, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Harley Clark Bohne in 1961; later divorced. She married Zundel Van Neilson in 1965 and later divorced. For Mickey, the third time was the charm on January 17, 1981 when she married her forever love, James “Bryce” Syndergaard. They later solemnized their marriage by being sealed together forever in the Manti Utah Temple in 2002.
Mickey and Bryce had 42 fantastic years together sharing their love of the outdoors and of traveling with their family, friends, and the scoundrels they met and hung out with along the way (kids, siblings, cousins, and friends). Some of her fondest memories were of their travels to Alaska, Death Valley, Quartzsite, AZ, Mesquite, NV for bowling tournaments, spending many reunions chasing grandkids around, and hanging out with her girlfriends. She held a very special place in her heart for Panguitch, Hatch, and Mt. Caramel Junction, and loved to show off the beauty of Bryce Canyon.
Mickey lived her life surrounded by the people whom she loved the most; her family and friends. She extended and received so much love and would like for us all to remember that love and to carry it forward and share it with others. She made many amazing friends in her life that she knew she could depend on (we can’t name all of you, but you know who you are) and she wants you all to know that you meant the world to her. Vicki Anderson was Mickey’s best friend and partner in crime, “Mickey and Vicki, (the icky twins),” 40 years of friendship, love, laughter, and yes, always a little gossip was truly a highlight of Mickey’s life along with her siblings, cousins, and of course her boys, Curtis Ray and Glenn Clark Neilson.
Mickey is survived by her sons, Curtis Ray (Shari) Neilson, Ogden and Glenn Clark (Debra) Neilson, Ferron; her sister, Karen (Marvin) Neilson, Carlin, NV; sister-in-law, Kathleen (Max) Johnson, Carlin, NV; her grandchildren, Bryce Neilson, Timothy M (Jimmy Bowker) Chiado, Price, and Joshua G (Justin) Simpson, East Carbon, whom she shared a very special bond with; many nieces and nephews; numerous well-loved bonus grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous very special friends.
She is preceded in death by the love of her life, James “Bryce” Syndergaard; her parents, Clarence Johnson, Ray and Rhoana Workman; brothers, Max and Cody Johnson; and numerous aunts and uncles.
The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to her care team at CNS Home Health and Hospice for the excellent care provided to Mickey. A special thanks to Kya for always bringing a light to Mickey’s day every time you walked through the door; you held a special place in her heart.
