A Summer highlight in the Castle Country Area is the annual Greek Festival put on by the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, which got started back in 1916. The festivities will take place on Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13. This year features old favorites like the Greek dancers and the Greek marketplace, as well as the return of a fan-favorite food item.
Castle Country Radio sat down with Stephanie Cha to talk about the festival.
Starting our chat, Cha spoke about this year’s events,” We will have our traditional events that we do. We’ll have the Greek dancers, and they’ll be dancing on Friday like they normally do; but then on Saturday, they’ll be staying all day instead of just in the morning.”
Other events at the festival include a 5k, church tours, a Greek Market, and what Cha described as,” yummy food.”
Two food items in particular stand out with the return of both squid and rice pudding to the menu. “ The calamari has returned, and so has the rice pudding!” exclaimed Cha,” it’s been gone since 2019, and everyone has been asking for them to return. The squid squad returned and came through.”
Cha ended our conversation by encouraging everyone to come out and enjoy the festivities. “ Just come and have a great time.” Cha continued,” Thank you to all those in the community who come to help out, we couldn’t do this without you.”
The Greek Festival will take place on Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with the kickoff 5k being held on Thursday, July 11 with check-ins starting at 7:30 p.m. and the race starting at 8:30 p.m. All events will be held at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church located at 61 South, 200 East in Price.
