It won’t be long before the students return to school, and then high school sports will start again. The Lady Spartan soccer squad will get things rolling on August 6 when they travel to Millard and then cross country, golf, football, and volleyball will follow in the coming weeks. The Lady Spartans soccer team had a rough 2023 campaign going 0-17 in regular season play. This year Emery will be under the direction of the first-year head coach Pennie Stewart. They will be on the road on August 6 to open the season at Millard and will play their first game in front of the home crowd on August 14 when they will face South Summit. We will get our first look at the RPI on August 31. The season will come to a close on October 8, with the playoffs beginning on Oct. 12. A new 3A State Champion will be crowned on Oct. 26 at America First Field.
Up next will be the Spartan cross-country team. Last season both the boy’s and the girl’s squads ran to fourth-place finishes in the 3A State Championships with Emery senior Camdon Larsen taking the top spot among all 3A runners. This season they will get off and running on August 10, at the Premier Invitational at the Cottonwood Sports Complex. Region 12 will be in Castle Dale on October 2, The season will wrap up on October 29 at the Rose Park Sports Complex for the State Championships.
The Emery boys golf team tees off on August 13 at the Skyline Golf Course, the home course of North Sanpete. Last season they turned in an eight-place finish at the State Championships and are looking to build on that for this season. Emery will host the region on September 26 at Millsite, with the State Championships taking place this season at The Ridge Golf Club in West Valley.
Emery Spartan Football returns to the gridiron on August 16 when they will travel to North Sanpete. The Spartans 7-4 season came to an end in the second round against Summit Academy. Their first home game will be on August 23 when the Union Cougars come to town. The initial RPI will be released on September 16, and the regular season will come to a close on October 18 at Delta, with the first round of the playoffs starting on October 25. The State Championship game will be played on November 16 at Southern Utah University.
The defending 3A State Champion Lady Spartan volleyball squad heads back to the floor with a new head coach this season, Karl Jensen who took over after the retirement of Coach Ferd Allred. August 20 they travel to South Sevier, and then they will welcome the Duchesne Eagles on August 21. The first RPI rankings come out on September 11, with the season coming to a close when they host Carbon on October 22. State tournament action begins on October 26 for the first round, and the final will take place on November 1 & 2 at Utah Valley University.
