Green River High School welcomes students back in a couple of weeks but the baseball team will be back at it sooner than that with their first contest coming up on August 7 when they travel to Bryce Valley. The girl’s volleyball squad has a little more time before they travel to Tintic for their first game on Tuesday, August 20.
The boys team ended last season with a 3-13 overall record and went 2-10 in region play, earning themselves the No. 16 spot in the final RPI. Their final game was an 8-1 loss to Panguitch in the first round of the state playoffs.
This year’s season will start on the road at Bryce Valley on August 7, and then a week later they get to play in front of the home crowd when Valley, out of Orderville comes to Green River. They square up for the first of two meetings with Pinnacle on August 21 in Price, with the Panthers making the trip to face the Pirates at home on September 13. We get our first look at the RPI on September 1, and the regular season ends on September 28. Playoffs will start on October 4 & 5 with Quarterfinals in Spanish Fork on October 8. Volleyball last season ended with a 6-13 overall mark compiling a 4-4 record in region play. Earning the No. 13 spot in the final RPI, the Lady Pirates fell to Wendover in the opening round of the playoffs dropping them into the consolation round where they defeated Tintic, but the season came to an end in their next match with a loss to Valley.
The season will open with a road game, a rematch with Tintic, on Tuesday, August 20. the Grand County Red Devils will come to town on August 27 for the Lady Pirates first home game. We get the initial RPI on September 11 and then they will close out the season with a home and away against the Pinnacle Panthers on October 8 and October 22, which is the last day of the regular season.
