On the evening of Thursday, Aug. 1, a Utah Highway Patrol Officer observed a vehicle traveling along I-70 west of Green River at high speeds. This caused the trooper to enter pursuit in an attempt to perform a traffic stop while also passing a member of the Emery County Sheriff’s Office attempting to do the same.

Lt. Cameron Roden from the UHP stated that both police vehicles witnessed the speeding car enter the traffic median while attempting to pass two cars, losing control and causing the car to roll. In this roll, both occupants of the vehicle were ejected and they were reported dead as a result of the crash.

The crash resulted in lane closure along I-70 as emergency crews attended to the scene.

UPDATE 8-6-24

The couple in the vehicle have been identified as Jasmine Green, age 34, from Henderson, Nevada, and Mathew Koehler, age 26, from Las Vegas. In addition the Green and Koehler, it was reported that a dog was also killed during the crash and subsequent ejection. UHP officials say that the couple were not wearing seatbelts during the crash.
