Members of the Emery County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO), Emery County Search and Rescue (ECSAR), and the Utah Division of Public Safety are searching for a 61-year-old man reported missing at Little Wild Horse Canyon, near Goblin Valley State Park.
The man, who was reported missing by members of his family, went hiking in the area on Saturday afternoon but did not return. On Sunday, he was reported as overdue. Officials shared that they had found the man’s vehicle at a trail head on Sunday, which officials hoped would narrow the search area, but unfortunately common recreational areas near the trail head have proved to be unfruitful.
Although the search is not being conducted in the park directly, the visitors center was closed on Monday, Aug. 12 due to the search. The visitors center will continue to be closed through Wednesday, Aug. 14, due to regularly scheduled staff training.
Members of ECSO, ECSAR, and the DPS continue to search for the man, alongside members of the 61-year-old’s family. The DPS is also utilizing their helicopter crew, which also aided the ECSAR team in a recent rescue at the Zero Gravity Slot Canyon.
