Coming off a 15-3 loss to Piute last Wednesday the Pinnacle Panthers baseball team was back in front of the home crowd and did not disappoint handing the Freedom Prep Academy Eagles a 14-2 loss Monday afternoon.

The Panthers jumped out taking a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Joey Howell and Bryson Shumway both would score on passed balls making the score 2-0.  Dominick Huitt came up to bat sending a fly ball to center field for a double that allowed Brody Howell to score. In the next at-bat, Huitt stole third and then home to score, Derek Trujillo would send a bunt down to score Riley Davis making the score 5-0.

Pinnacle held the Eagles scoreless in the top of the second and then it was time to get back to work in the bottom half. Dominik Vigil came up first laying down a single and would make it to third on an error. In the next at-bat Vigil would score on a passed ball to Hernan Nunez who would reach on a dropped third strike. Kaydence Romero would reach base on another passed ball and Nunez would score on the same pitch. After a pitching change, Joey Howell sent one to left field and collected an inside-the-park home run scoring Romero as well, pushing the score to 9-0.

After allowing one run in the top of the third and going scoreless in the bottom of the inning Pinnacle came up in the fourth ready to put the game out of reach. Vigil came up with one on and sent a fly to center for a double driving in Trujillo, Vigil would score on a wild pitch in the next at-bat. Romero sent a single to first base scoring Nunez. After Romero scored on a passed ball, Huitt came up to ice the game with a fly ball to right field scoring Brody Howell to put the score at 14-1. Freedom Prep would add one more run in the top of the fifth but the Panthers would put them away 14-2 in five innings.

Seven Panther players collected at least one hit in the win. Huitt had two hits with two RBI’s and a run scored. Vigil had a pair of hits scoring two runs and had one RBI. Trujillo had two hits as well earning one run and an RBI. Brody Howell had a pair of hits and a pair of runs. Joey Howell with the homerun had one hit collecting a pair of runs and a pair of RBI’s.

Joey Howell got the start on the mound going 2.0 innings allowing one hit and struck out four. Shumway also put in two innings of work giving up one earned on five hits and striking out six. Davis closed out the game giving up a hit with an earned run and struck out one.

Wednesday the Panthers will be on the road in Bicknell to take on the Wayne Badgers.
