Members of the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce met on Thursday, Aug. 15 at the Ascension St. Matthew’s Church for the body’s monthly luncheon. Within this luncheon, the Chamber spotlighted several local businesses and organizations who have stood out for their work within the community.
The first to receive recognition was Utah State University Eastern. Jess Brinkerhoff, the athletic director for Utah State University Eastern spoke on the recent success of the athletic department which as a whole had a cumulative GPA of 3.4.” Shout out to the academics because we are students first and foremost before they’re athletes. And that’s what we really try to push at the university.”
Brinkerhoff also spoke on how the university wanted to give back and serve the community by encouraging people to shop at local businesses as well as discussing service projects USUE would be participating in such as the upcoming Day of Caring with the United Way of Eastern Utah and the HOPE Walk with the HOPE Squad of Carbon, Emery and Grand Counties.” Our kids really love to serve and be part of this community. So please don’t feel like you can’t reach out to us and ask for support in some way and if we are available, we would definitely love to do that.”
Also spotlighted were Autumn and Robert Blackner, the owners and operators of Party Express and Gifts. Addressing those in attendance, Autumn Blackner stated,” We are just beyond grateful to be a part of this community. So, first and foremost, I just want to say thank you. Thank you all for your support for your love.” She continued,” When you have your big events, you know what, just holler, we’ll come down and we’ll build you something cool.”
Next up to be honored with a community spotlight was the HOPE Squad of Carbon, Emery and Grand Counties, alongside the Southeastern Utah Health Department, with Amanda McIntsoh accepting the award. McIntosh, who was also serving as a panelist for the second half of the luncheon, saved her remarks for that.
Castle Country Radio would like to thank and congratulate these businesses and organizations within our community who aim to improve life in Carbon County.
