After dropping the opening game to Bryce Valley, The Green River Pirates welcomed the Valley Buffalos to town for their home opener on Wednesday. The Pirates couldn’t find an answer for Valley’s junior on the mound Hogan Harris as he threw five shutout innings handing Green River its second loss, 11-0.

Valley put two runs on the board in the first and held the Pirates hitless in the bottom of the inning. In the second with the score 3-0, Cristian Mendoza came to the plate sending a single down the line and into left field. The next batter, Rolando Anguiano stepped to the plate and grounded into a double play to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, with the score 8-0, Antonio Macias stepped into the batter’s box and sent a single to the third basemen. Macias was caught stealing second, and Cristian Venzor was the next batter up with two outs and would strike out to end the inning. Moving into the bottom of the fifth with the score 11-0, Mendoza came up to the plate sending a single to second. Anguiano was next up to bat sending another single to to right, but that would be as close to a rally as the Pirates would get as three batters later in the inning, and the game would come to an end.

Mendoza collected a pair of hits in the contest, while Macias and Anguiano would each collect one.

The Pirates used a trio of pitchers in the contest with Anguiano getting the start going three innings and giving up six runs, five earned on seven hits, and striking out two. Mauricio Hernandez came in and surrendered two earned on three hits. Jason Henandez finished it off by going 1.1 innings giving up three runs, two earned on three hits.

Green River will get back to it on Monday when they welcome Panguitch to town.

Game time is set for 4:00 p.m..
