“Whitey” Douglas Wayne Gordon, age 78, left this world fighting and on his own terms on July 12, 2024. He was born June 27, 1946 in Price, Utah to Clive Edgar and Vera Staker Gordon. He spent his childhood in Huntington, Utah and graduated from Emery High. In his early years he worked for Bevan Wilson with Arch and Royce Allred at the Arizona Trading Posts. After moving back to Huntington he began working at various coal mines throughout Carbon and Emery counties. He later worked for Nielsen Construction as well as other construction companies. He spent most of his time chasing cows. Afterwards, he attended Provo College and received his degree in Business Management. Following graduation, he opened his own flower shop and veterinary supply business.

Whitey had various hobbies and spent most of his time chasing cows with his brother, Earl. He spent countless hours going to rodeos with his good friend, Ken. He was the local after-hour veterinarian, cattleman, cowboy, rough stock rider- EURA saddle bronc riding champion in 1973 and 1974, hunter, racehorse owner, head camp cook/chef, coffee drinker, and bullshitter. He was known for his cowboy knowledge and ass chewing.

Survived by his daughter, Johni Lyn (Corey) Burnside; son, Dub (Melinda) Gordon; brother, Earl (Sheila) Gordon; sister, Ilene Harmon; grandchildren, Lyndsie, Breanna (Tucker), Cienna, Berkley, Kelton “Gomer,” and McKynlee “Georgie” (Conner); great-grandchildren, Byntlie and “little buddy” Roper; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and many lifelong friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn Morgensen; brother-in-law, Michael Harmon; as well as numerous family members and lifelong friends.

He will be missed and our memories will be cherished always.

Thank you to Sherrie Gordon and to all the doctors and nurses who assisted in his care as well as his special nurse friend, Magan whom he was very fond of.

A cowboy send off will take place on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. at the Huntington City Park. Friends are welcome to join the family at the Park. Whitey’s remains will be interred earlier that day in the Huntington City Cemetery.  Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Whitey online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
