The Lady Spartan volleyball team spent last weekend in Nephi for the Juab Tournament, and when they came home they jumped into the Region 12 portion of their schedule as the Richfield Wildcats made the trip to Castle Dale. As the two teams battled through the match going the distance, Emery came away with the 3-2 advantage to move their overall record this season to 5-2.
Emery had success at the Juab Tournament going 4-1 over two days of matches.
All the sets were very competitive as is always the case when Emery and Richfield get together. The Lady Spartans came out taking wins in the first two 25-22 and 25-18. Richfield came back in the third to collect the 25-15 win and then grabbed another victory in the fourth 25-11 to tie things up 2-2 heading into the fifth and final set.
In the fifth and deciding set the Wildcats weren’t ready to quit but Emery would outlast them to take the 17-15 win and the 3-2 match victory.
The Lady Spartans climbed to 5-2 overall and are now 1-0 in region play.
Thursday the Delta Rabbits come to town. The Rabbits will come to Castle Dale with a 5-4 overall record and sit at 0-1 in Region 12. Last season in both conference meetings Emery came out on top in the contest and then earned another win over them in the State Championships.
