As summer continues to wind down, there continues to be a plethora of activities around our beautiful area. This upcoming Saturday, Aug. 31 is no exception when the Outlaw Car Show returns for its 38th rendition. Among the old are also several new changes, including a move from Helper to Scofield. Castle Country Radio sat down with Mike James, the events organizer to learn more.

Opening up our discussion, James gave a brief overview of what the Outlaw Car Show entails,” We started it back in 87 and it was called the Butch Cassidy Car Show back 87, 88 and 89. And then when they quit doing Butch Cassidy Days in Helper, we just went to the Helper Outlaw Car Show. And then it went to the Outlaw Car Show after that.”

Along with the 38th rendition of the event, James spoke excitedly about the support and participation he’s been receiving leading up to the show,” I’m getting calls about the car show, especially this week from outside of the area and from people inside of the area. People want to know if it’s too late to enter the swap meet or car show, which it’s not. You can just give me a call and I can point you in the right direction.” he continued,” You enter the day of the showjust pull up, park your car, and come back to our registration tent and we’ll get you fixed up.”

Another inclusion at this year’s Outlaw Car Show is the Outlaw Flea and Swap Meet. James, who owns and operates an antique shop, discussed some of the items people might see for sale,” I’ve got two people coming that are big-time sign collectors … One of them has 120 coal mine signs from Carbon County. And he’s going to be there and they’re going to have old signs, oil cans. And we’ve got somebody that’s making hats who is from Emery County who’s going to be there. There is going to be something for everybody.”

Also happening at the show will be live music from Rockin’ Hot Rod Productions, whom James spoke highly of,” He’s done my music for probably the last 15 years. He’s a professional car show DJ who does a car show or cruise night every night around Salt Lake and Utah County. And we’re lucky to get him. He’s got some good music and he’ll be there spinning the tunes for you.”

The 38th Outlaw Car Show will take place on Saturday, Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Scofield, Utah. Entrance is $20 for vehicles, but is free for the public. For more information, you can visit the event’s Facebook page or contact James directly at 435-820-8320.
