day-of-recovery

Recovery from addiction of any kind can feel like a full-time job. And much like a full-time job, it’s important to occasionally take a step back and reflect on how far you’ve come. An event that aims to provide this is the fourth annual Recovery Day on Friday, Sept. 6, sponsored by USARA, Carbon Medical, Castleview Hospital and Price City. Castle Country Radio sat down with Damon Davis from USARA to discuss the event.

“We try to bring together as many of our local partners as we can to highlight the importance of reducing stigma, of connection and recovery from substance use disorders.” Explained Davis of the event,” It’s just like any other fair you would go to. We have a little bit of a different structure because as I said, we try to bring together resources like treatment centers, our local health department, carbon medical and the hospital. Everybody will be there trying to recover out loud and let people in this community know that there is support. And that there is help.”

Following this, Davis went more in-depth regarding some of the activities that will be at Recovery Day,” we do try to make it family-friendly and you know, people in recovery have families and you know, we want to make it so that there’s something for everybody. We’ll have bouncy houses. So you’ll have age-appropriate bounce houses and there will be a photo booth and a dunk tank.” Davis continued,” We’re hoping to get some law enforcement representation there because that’s always fun; we’ve got great support from our local PD and the Sheriff’s office and we just appreciate them and try to encourage them to be a part of this as well.”

Davis then took the time to speak on the importance of local support for events like Recovery Day,” We have to have it. We can’t do this alone … If you’ve got a year or two years in recovery and you’ve been able to put a substance use disorder behind you, that’s something that should be celebrated. People need to know and it’s not a bad thing. And I think that just continuing to be together in the light of day, good things are happening.”

“I would like to leave the impression that we recover together.” stated Davis, ending our conversation,” Just come and be a part of it.”

The fourth annual Recovery Day will be held on Friday, Sept. 6 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Price City Peace Gardens. Rides will also be available from East Carbon at 2 p.m. at the Carbon Medical clinic. For more information on the event and to stay up to date with USARA, you can visit their Facebook group here
