On Wednesday, Aug. 28, representatives from Active Re-Entry gathered at the offices of Castle Country Radio to receive a check for $5000 to aid the company in their PERKIE Travels service, which offers free daily transportation service for cancer patients from Carbon & Emery Counties traveling to Utah County for radiation treatments.
The money for this donation was earned through Castle Country Radio’s annual pie auction, which in addition to this donation, raises money to buy $100 fuel cards for patients suffering from cancer to travel to and from treatments and money going toward the Thomas B. Anderson Scholarship fund.
Terri Yelonek, the executive director for Active Re-Entry, spoke on what the donation means for the community,” what it means to the consumers that we take for radiation treatment is they’re able to get the treatment that they wouldn’t get if it weren’t for this. We’ve had so many people tell us that if it weren’t for this program, they would have never gotten this lifesaving treatment that they need.”
Youth/PERKIE Travels Program Coordinator Derek Jensen spoke on the impact that the donation would have on the program,” It helps keep our drivers and it helps keep maintenance on the vehicles. It also gives the community a chance to be able to make the trip up with minimal costs.”
The pair also talked about what it means to them to be able to provide their services to cancer patients,” To me, it’s a privilege and an honor to get to serve. The people that we serve, they’re just some of the most amazing citizens in our community. And I’m very grateful that I have this opportunity.” spoke Yelonek. Jensen added on this,” It’s the best feeling in the world being able to help people with various things they need.”
