Coming off a 15-10 win over Pinnacle, Green River baseball traveled to Altamont to take on the Longhorns. Altamont would close out Green River in five innings, 15-5 using a seven-run second inning.

The Pirates traveled to Price last Wednesday claiming the big win over Pinnacle 15-10, the Longhorns lost in the championship game last season to the Wayne Badgers, and have a 6-5 record this season.

Altamont scored one in the bottom of the first, then added seven in the second, and then two more in the third to put the score at 10-0 heading into the top of the fourth when the Pirates found their offense.

Rolando Anguino came to the plate with the bases loaded and sent a single to second, and off of a pair of errors, Cristian Mendoza and Jarrett Guerrera scored, putting the score at 10-2. David Mendez would ground out in the next at-bat and Venzor would score. Mauricio Hernandez stepped in and singled on a grounder to center field that drove in Anguiano to move the score to 10-4 going into the bottom of the fourth.

Altamont added four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to put the score at 14-4, giving the Pirates one last chance to change the score before the end of the inning when Antonio Macias singled to right field to drive in Jason Hernandez that made the score 14-5. The Longhorns added one run in the bottom of the fifth to end the game handing Green River the 15-5 loss.

Mauricio Hernandez collected a pair of hits and one RBI for the Pirates. Macias had one hit and one RBI, Anguiano collected one hit and an RBI, and Mendoza collected an RBI, in the loss.

Anguiano got the start on the mound going 1.1 giving up six hits, eight runs, five earned, and striking out two. Mauricio Hernandez took over going 1.1 surrendering two hits two runs and striking out one.  Mendoza finished the contest with 2.0 innings with a pair of hits, four earned, and struck out one.

Green River will be back on the field on Friday when they travel to take on the Wayne Badgers.
