On Wednesday, Sept. 4, what started as a routine DUI investigation turned into a high-speed chase which resulted in a fatality and a brief closure of U.S. 6.

Utah Highway Patrol officials say that officers were performing a routine DUI investigation east of Wellington when the Driver allegedly attempted to flee. UHP Officers began a pursuit, which included an attempt to spike the vehicle, which was unsuccessful.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., the vehicle crashed, ejecting the driver. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Details regarding the driver have not been released at the time of writing.

The name of the man has not yet been released, but authorities have identified him as a 39-year old man who resided in Fort Duchesne.
