For people looking to give back to the community, the perfect opportunity is coming up, the United Way of Eastern Utah’s annual Day of Caring, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7. Castle Country Radio sat down with Pam Boyd, Executive for United Way of Eastern Utah to talk about how to get involved.
The first topic of conversation was how interested parties can get involved with the event,” the easiest way to volunteer for Day of Caring, and we work to make it easy, and we work to make it pleasant, is to show up at Lin’s Fresh Market. We have a breakfast rally from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.” Boyd explained,” At 8 a.m. then people disperse out to the projects they’re going to do. So the easiest way to volunteer is to show up, enjoy a doughnut and enjoy the party atmosphere. We will have projects that you can sign up for, and we will get you some hand tools and some gloves if you need them and trash bags. We’ll get you all set up and give you directions on where to go and what to do.”
“We have some projects around parks. At the Price River Trail, we have a project to build some fencing there. We have some projects at private homes where maybe older residents are having trouble getting their weeds cut and just generally picked up around their yard, so we send people out to help them.” stated Boyd regarding what projects were available,” I always tell people the best visual for Day of Caring is like ants on a cupcake. There’s a cupcake and ants are swarming all over it, getting all this work done.”
Boyd also discussed the importance behind the Day of Caring,” it’s always planned the weekend close to 9/11. And it’s about taking that day of American tragedy and showing America’s strength. And it’s a way to make communities come together. The United Way’s mission is to improve the common good by harnessing the caring power of the community.
“We’re looking forward to this event.” Shared Boyd,” Come on out, join us. And then at the end of the day, we will feed you some lunch at an end-of-day party at Washington Park.” Those who participate will also receive free admission to the Utah State University Eastern men’s and women’s soccer game that afternoon.
The United Way of Eastern Utah’s Day of Caring will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7, starting at 7 a.m. in the Lin’s Fresh Market parking lot. More information can be found on both the United Way’s website and Facebook page
