
Green River Pirate baseball was back on the diamond on Wednesday as they welcomed Piute to town. Last Friday they found themselves on the losing end of their contest at Wayne, and they didn’t fare that much better against Piute as they took the 9-0 loss.
Last Friday, the Pirates faced the Wayne Badgers. In that game, the Pirates collected five runs on a pair of hits but lost 15-5.
On Wednesday, the Piute Thunderbirds, with an 8-3 overall record came to Green River to take on the Pirates. The game started with the Thunderbirds scoring 3 runs in the first, and after that, it was a pitcher duel, with neither team able to score any runs throughout the next five innings.
In the top of the seventh, with the score still 3-0 Piute came up to the plate and rattled off six runs turning on their defense in the bottom half of the inning to close out the Pirates taking the 9-0 win.
Rolando Anguiano and Mauricio Hernandez each collected a hit in the loss.
Anguiano started on the mound with 5.2 innings worth of work giving up five hits, three runs, a pair of earned runs, and five strikeouts. Mauricio Hernandez went 0.2 innings with one hit and four earned runs. Jason Hernandez finished it off with a pair of hits two earned runs and stuck out one.
Green River gets back to the diamond on Friday when they travel to take on Bryce Valley.
