When the Helper City Council met together on Thursday, Sept. 5, they faced a loaded agenda. But one of the biggest items was the selection of the new Police Chief for the city following the retirement of former Chief Chris Gigliotti. Following the open application period Mayor Lenise Peterman announced that Sgt. Sean Draper would be promoted to chief.

Mayor Peterman explained that Draper had been working in law enforcement for eight years, with six of those being spent with Helper City. She also spoke on the broad-based support seen in his application, encouraging the city council members to view the many support letters Draper had received from across the county.

Mayor Peterman continued with high praise for Draper,” He’s unbiased and he will enforce the law. He plans to be a positive force in our community.” Mayor Peterman also explained Sgt. Draper already had plans to work with the schools of the city to build rapport and establish trust with the youth.

After her statements, Mayor Peterman opened the floor to questions from the council; to which there were none. Because of this, the motion was made to approve the appointment and officially make the Sgt. into a Chief. When put to a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Castle Country Radio would like to congratulate Chief Draper on his new position and wish him luck as he works to make Helper and Carbon County a safer place.
