
The Green River Pirate baseball team was on the road to face the Valley Buffalos in Orderville on Wednesday. After a scoreless first inning, the Buffalos rattled off 15 runs in the next three to hand Green River the 15-0 loss in four.
Green River sits at 1-8 overall with a 1-7 record in region play, in the most recent RPI they sit in the No. 13 spot. The ranking will be updated through the remainder of the season until the last game on September 27, when the final calculations will be made and the position will be used for seeding in the 1A State Championships.
Valley had the Pirates stymied all game allowing just one hit off of the bat of Antonio Macias in the top of the first. Hogan Harris, the pitcher for Valley was dominant throwing a complete game shutout on just 40 pitches.
Macias got the start on the mound going 1.2 innings giving up 2 hits, five runs, and striking out two. Jason Hernandez came in to go just 0.1 innings with a pair of hits and three earned runs. Cristian Mendoza also put in 0.1 innings surrendering two hits, five runs, and four earned, and Jarrett Guerrera put in 1.1 innings with three hits, two earned runs, and struck out one.
On Friday the Pinnacle Panthers (1-10 overall, 0-9 in region, No. 15 in the RPI) come to Green River for the final region meeting of the season. The Pirates came out on top in their first meeting on August 21 by a score of 15-10.
