Green River and Pinnacle hit the diamond for the final time this regular season. The Pirates came away with the win in their first meeting, 15-10, on Friday the Panthers came up short and Green River walked away with the 15-0 victory.

Green River sits at 2-8 overall and 2-7 in Region 1A South, holding the No. 11 spot in the latest RPI. They fell at Valley 15-0 in their last game.

Pinnacle is 1-11 and 0-10 in the conference and sits at No. 16 in the RPI. Their last two contests have been losses, 20-0 at Piute and 16-1 at Altamont.

The opening inning was played even with neither team able to score. In the bottom of the second, Green River went to work, with two on and two outs Jesus Escalante stepped into the batter’s box and sent a grounder to the shortstop and driving in Jarrett Guerrera and Gabriel Quintana. After Jason Hernandez reached on a single, Antonio Macias hit a fly ball to center, bringing home Escalante and Hernandez to put the score at 4-0 headed to the third.

Cristian Venzor started off the bottom of the inning with a single to center field, one batter later Rolando Anguiano sent a single pop fly to short. Quintana sent a single to left driving in Venzor and Anguiano. Hernandez sent a single to center bringing home Quintana. Up next was Macias who would send a fly ball to left field to allow Escalante and Hernandez to score. In his next at-bat, Cristian Mendoza, sent a grounder to second, reaching on an error and driving in Macias. Venzor returned to the plate and got a hold of a pitch hitting a triple to left field and bringing home Mendoza to put the score at 11-0 headed to the fourth inning.

With two on Quintana doubled to center driving in Anguiano. Garrett Keener scored after tagging up on a Macias fly-out to center. With a pair of outs, Mendoza stepped in and sent a single to left driving in Quintana and Hernandez to put the score at 15-0 ending the contest in 4 innings.

Quintana led the Pirates with three hits, three RBI’s, and scored three. Hernandez had three runs, a pair of hits, and an RBI. Anguiano collected a pair of hits and scored two, and Macias earned three runs in the win.

Anguiano got the start on the mound earning the shutout win with three hits and striking out five.

For the Panthers, Dominick Huitt collected a pair of hits, and Carlos Alcon collected one in the loss.

Brady Howell took the loss for Pinnacle on the mound giving up 15 runs, six earned on 13 hits, and struck out six.

Pinnacle heads back to the field on Monday when they will travel to take on the Tintic Miners (5-7-1 overall, 1-1 in the region, and No.8 in the RPI).

Green River will hit the diamond on Wednesday when they will be on the road to face Panguitch (18-1, 8-0, and No. 1). Early in the season in Green River, the Bobcats handed the Pirates a 15-0 loss.
