On Thursday afternoon, the USU Eastern women’s soccer team fell short in an all-out battle, taking a 2-1 loss against Colorado Northwestern Community College. The Lady Eagles struck early with a goal from Maci Nell in the 10th minute, giving them an early advantage. Despite controlling much of the game and recording 28 shots, 16 of which were on target, they couldn’t break through Colorado Northwestern’s tough defense. Jasmine Hernandez, the Spartans’ goalkeeper, made 13 saves, keeping her team in the game.
CNCC responded in the 36th minute with an equalizer from Hali’a Pelton and sealed the win in the 58th minute when Ashlee Harris netted the game-winner, assisted by Lilly Wittwer. Although Utah State Eastern dominated possession and created numerous chances, they couldn’t find a second goal, ultimately dropping the conference match. Despite the loss, the Eagles’ relentless attack and strong play showed promise as they look ahead to their next games.
