
Pinnacle Panther baseball was on the diamond on Monday as they traveled to Tintic to face the Miners. The Miners collected eight runs in the first three innings and added five more in the next three to close out the Panthers 13-3 in six innings.
The score was 8-0 in the fourth when Carlos Alcon stepped into the batter’s box and sent a line drive to center, the next batter up, Dominick Huitt sent a single to center, driving in Alcon to put Pinnacle on the board. Moving into the fifth, with the score now at 10-1, Brody Howell singled to left to get on first. One batter later, Dominik Vigil singled to center and drove in Brody Howell to get the score to 10-2.
Moving into the top of the sixth inning, with the score still 10-2, Riley Davis came up to the plate with two outs with Huitt and Alcon on base as the third pitch went wild and Alcon took the opportunity to come home putting the score at 10-3. Tintic came up in the bottom of the sixth adding three more runs to close out the Panthers in six innings.
Alcon collected one hit and scored twice. Huitt and Bryson Shumway each earned a pair of hits for Pinnacle. Brody Howell had a hit and a run scored and Vigil had one hit in the loss.
Shumway got the start on the mound going three innings and surrendering eight runs, six earned on eight hits, and struck out two. Joey Howell came into finish the contest giving up five runs, four earned, on three hits striking out four.
The Panthers get back on the field on Wednesday when the Wayne Badgers (5-11 overall, 4-7 in region, and No. 9 in the RPI) come to town. This is the second and final time the two teams will face off in the regular season, On August 14, the Badgers handed Pinnacle a 13-3 loss.
