Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard joined Castle Country Radio for a biweekly update on everything to do with Emery County. This included updates on upcoming events for the county and his usual organizational shoutout.

Opening up our conversation, Commissioner Leonard provided the Commissioners’ perspective on Tuesday’s commission meeting where all three commissioners came together to donate $500 to each of the three American Legion posts within Emery County. “Our veterans have just been a huge part of America and our local community. And they work hard, they’ve put a lot of their life into our country and our community and many things that they do.” Explained Leonard,” And so we wanted to donate the $500 to each post so that if there are veterans that can’t afford it or want to participate, this will help pay their dues. We love their involvement in the community and all the things that they do.”

As usual, Commissioner Leonard wanted to spotlight a group within the county that has been working to improve Emery. This time the honor went to the veterans of the community,” They attend funerals for other veterans and other funerals where they show respect. They come to our events, our city celebrations and our county fair. They’re just a part of our community. And we’re excited to give them the spotlight this week and appreciate our veterans, the post and the American Legion. We want them to continue to thrive in our community.”

The next item Commissioner Leonard wanted to talk about was an upcoming visit to both Carbon and Emery Counties on Thursday, Sept. 19. “We’re excited to always have the governor’s office down so that we can rub shoulders and visit with them about community challenges and also wins that we have.”

Another upcoming event for the county is the Emery County Paranormal Convention, which will take place on Friday, Oct. 11, and Saturday, Oct. 12. “That’s been going on for the past few years, and it’s a fundraiser for our museum … if you’re interested in the Paranormal Con, there will be a lot of fun activities that surround that.” For more information on the convention, you can view the full schedule of events here

On Monday, Sept. 16, Utah State University Eastern played host to the Eastern Utah Economic Summit, an event which Commissioner Leonard spoke highly of,” It was really good. Not only for the networking and the different entities around the state and local community and Carbon in Emery County but businesses and startups being funded through a pitch competition as well.” Leonard continued,” And then we had some energy breakout rooms talking about the future of energy in every county. It was good to touch on future and then some challenges that we’re looking at and trying to solve.”

Closing out our conversation, Commissioner Leonard left us with a simple message,” I appreciate the support from our community.”
