The arrival of fall in Castle Country brings numerous exciting events. One of the first each year is the Notre Dame De Lourdes Catholic Church’s Oktoberfest, which features games, food and most importantly unites the community. Castle Country Radio sat down with Catherine Kane from the church to talk about Oktoberfest.

The first item, and to some the most important, is the food served throughout the two-day event. On Friday, Sept. 27, that includes sausage, kielbasa, hamburgers and hot dogs. On top of this, there will also be a Mexican dinner starting at 5 p.m. “You’ll have your choice of carne asada tacos or chicken fajitas, rice, beans and chips and salsa.” explained Kane.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, most of the food will stay the same, but instead of the Mexican dinner, the event will feature a lasagna dinner. “People love Sam Farlaino’s lasagna, and he’s very generous and volunteers his time and makes lots of lasagna, so come and enjoy it.”

Of course, no meal is complete without dessert, and Oktoberfest brings the heat both figuratively and literally,” We’ll have homemade apple strudel. Each year we get volunteers, and we come in to make the pastries fresh.” Kane stated.

On top of the delicious food, Oktoberfest also provides attendees the opportunity to win several prizes through games, silent auctions and opportunity drawings. “We have some great baskets coming in. We have a patio table. We have a Camp Chef stove. We have all sorts of things at the auction, decorative items, fall items.” Kane also spoke on the big opportunity drawing prize, which is a 1968 Ford Thunderbird. “We’re only selling 200 tickets for that, so your opportunity to win is greater.”

Proceeds from this event will also go toward benefiting several charitable organizations within Carbon County, Kane detailed the specifics,” This year, we’re donating to Genesis Pregnancy Center, Car Seats for Kids, which is run by the Southeastern Utah Health Department, Price City Utility Assistance Fund, and the Perkie Travels Program.”

“Come, have a good time. Always great food and fun at Oktoberfest,” spoke Kane, ending our conversation.

Notre Dame De Lourdes Catholic Church’s Oktoberfest will be held on Friday, Sept. 27, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
