LeRoy D. Maxfield, age 83, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024 at home in Castle Dale, while surrounded by his wife and children.
He was born July 2, 1941 in Emery, Utah to Ludean and Ella Maxfield, where he spent most of his childhood years. LeRoy married his high school sweetheart Loretta B. Anderson on April 30, 1960 in Castle Dale. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City temple.
LeRoy and Loretta became parents to five children, four sons and one daughter, all of whom survive him. After living in Salt Lake City and Kansas City shortly after marriage, they returned to Castle Dale to raise their family.
LeRoy was employed in construction as a carpenter foreman for many years, helping in the building of the five power plants in the county as well as those in Delta, Utah. The last fourteen years of his career was spent with the Emery School District in maintenance and as a supervisor. After retiring from the district, he was hired as a part-time groundskeeper for the Millsite Golf Course, where he spent another thirteen years doing what he loved, keeping the course in top shape and enjoying the free golf. He was a member of the Millsite Men’s Association for all of those years and made many wonderful friends.
LeRoy loved his family and enjoyed camping, hunting with his boys, ATVing, and taking family trips to all of the state parks, Disneyland, and Yellowstone several times. His children were active in sports, band and chorus concerts, and theater. He was very proud of them and love supporting them.
After becoming empty nesters, LeRoy and Loretta went on many wonderful trips with their grown children. They traveled from the Northwest to the Northeast, to Hawaii, Alaska, and Chile. They also spent seven years as snow-birders in Hurricane, Utah, and made many friends there.
LeRoy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions over the years. He and his wife served a two- year service mission inventorying all church buildings in the Huntington, Castle Dale and Ferron Stakes.
LeRoy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Loretta; his children Greg (Veronica) of Camas, WA, Wayne (Deanna) of Castle Dale, Kyle (Robin) and Lori (Brent) of Spanish Fork, and Brad (Callie) of Salem, Utah.
