Fall is in the air, and unfortunately, that also means the flu is in the air. But worry not, because the Southeast Utah Health Department has you covered with both in-office vaccinations and a mobile clinic that travels around Castle Country to help citizens stay up to date with their vaccines. Sara Braby and Chet Ingram from SEUHD joined Castle Country Radio to talk about the importance of flu shots and where and when you can get vaccinated.

Opening up our discussion, Braby discussed the importance of getting a flu shot,” it’s very important to get a flu shot so that you can stay well during the fall season when the flu is at an all-time high.” Braby continued,” The most important part about getting them is so you can build immunity and stay well during the winter season.”

Braby also discussed some of the other vaccines offered by the SEUHD,” at our office, we have two types of flu vaccines. So we have the flu, the vaccine that’s for anybody six months and up. And then we have a high-dose vaccine, which is for ages 65 and older …we offer other vaccines such as pneumonia and RSV, we also have the shingles vaccine, tetanus, hepatitis. So we can offer pretty much any vaccine that an adult might need.”

Moving onto the benefits of getting vaccinated, Braby explained,” The benefits are that you stay well during the season. It helps people to continue to live their normal lives. They’re not getting sick, they’re going to work, building immunity and just staying healthy.”

For those interested in getting vaccinated, they are available at each County’s health department office. In Carbon County, vaccines are available Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. In Emery County, vaccines are available on Mondays from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Both locations accept walk-in appointments.

On top of these locations, the SEUHD also offers several mobile clinic dates which are:

  • Oct. 14 and 15 in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center at Utah State University Eastern from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Oct. 16 at the SEUHD Castle Dale Office from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Oct. 23 at the SUEHD Price Office from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Ingram explained these events more in-depth,” We’re calling them the Halloween Ghost the Flu events. We’ll have some fun swags and treats to get kids out and get their flu vaccines taken care of.”

Ending our interview, Ingram shared,” Stay healthy through the fall seasons and we hope everybody has a great holiday season.”
