The Lady Spartans closed out the regular season on September 17 in their matches against Juab, and then last Wednesday they took part in the Region 12 Championships finishing in fifth place. The 3A State Championships start this Thursday at Brighton High School and Emery will take six players to compete.
Julia Peterson will face Marvella Young from Delta, and the winner of the match will advance to take on Nataya Day of Juab. Peterson and Day have gone up against each other once before with Day winning in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-2. In the third singles match, Dorian Price will meet Leah Ortega from American Heritage with the winner moving on to face Blythe Hueffner of the Waterford Academy.
In the first doubles match, Acelyn Migliori and Tailynn Minchey will face Shayli Bake and Amelia McFarland from San Juan with the winner advancing to take on the North Sanpete duo of Sadie Job and Alivia Madsen, they faced each other back on September 10 with Job and Madsen taking the 6-2, 6-2 win. In second doubles, Izzi Turner and Lily Sorensen take on Gianna Valdez and Kiley Sasser of Carbon with the winner advancing to face Lucy Beutler and Cate Ludlow of Juab.
The opening round or what they call the round of 32 will be whittled down by Thursday afternoon and then will move to Liberty Park for the remaining rounds on Friday and Saturday
