The girls’ regular soccer season came to a close on Thursday. The Lady Dinos welcomed the Lady Spartans of Emery to the soccer field at Carbon High School. Carbon found the back of the net in both halves and took an 8-0 win.

Carbon closes out the regular season with an 11-5 record and 9-5 in Region 12 play, they hold on to the No. 4 spot in the RPI. Emery falls to 0-17 overall and 0-14 in the region, they are in the No. 18 spot in the latest RPI. The final RPI will be released on October 9 when the bracket for the State Championships will also be released and the opening round will be held on October 12 at home sites.

The Lady Dinos jumped out in the first half scoring four goals and holding Emery scoreless to take a four-goal lead into halftime. The second half was more of the same with the Lady Dinos piling on four more goals, and Madi Barlow between the pipes registered her seventh shutout of the season.

Malia Smith had an unbelievable freshman regular season, scoring a hat trick in the contest to bring her season total to 32, to lead all classes in the state. Emma Bowman scored a pair of goals. Bailey Johnson scored a goal and earned a pair of assists to bring her total to 21 this season which will land her in the top two when the season ends on October 8 and the numbers are finalized. Blythe Bradford collected a goal and an assist. Four other Lady Dinos Lydia Lancaster, Kenzie Morgan, Sloan McCourt, and Chrissy Jones each had an assist in the Carbon win.

Carbon and Emery wait until Wednesday to find out when, who, and where they will be playing. The season will come to a close on October 26 at Zions Bank Stadium when a new State Champion will be crowned.
