On September 17, 2024 Lyle Everett Hougen beamed up to Heaven in his cherished lime green 1972 Plymouth Roadrunner and drove off into the sunset.
Lyle was born on August 4, 1950 in Fargo, North Dakota, to Alf Ingvard Hougen and Ruth Alvilde Hougen (Røste). He spent his early years in North Dakota. He was an active member of The Boy Scouts of America and attended the Lutheran church. In 1963, his family relocated to Henderson, Nevada and Lyle attended Basic High School, where he played the Tuba in the school band and graduated as part of the class of 1968; which led to a deeper appreciation of and love for music. He would often collect memorabilia such as records and CDs.
After high school, Lyle joined The United States Navy during the Vietnam era and later met the love of his life, Christina Welker in 1972. They married on September 10, 1977 and together, they raised three wonderful children: Tanja Lee, Westley Louis, and Jessica Ruth. Lyle later joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and his family was later sealed for time and all eternity in the Provo Utah Temple in 1986.
Throughout his life, Lyle was a devoted father and husband. He worked at the Hoover Dam and served in the Naval Reserves as a Seabee. Later, he moved his family to Dutch John, Utah and then back to Henderson, Nevada, due to medical advice. Lyle’s commitment to his family was unwavering and he worked hard to provide for them. He was employed at UNLV as a custodian and later at Desert Regional Medical Center before retiring in 2011.
Lyle was known for his kind and generous nature and he made many treasured friends throughout his life. Despite facing challenges, he always put his family first and supported them with love and care. In 2014, Lyle moved to St. George, Utah where he worked at Intermountain Hospital and Walmart.
In 2016, Lyle and Christina remarried and they later settled in Price, Utah, where Lyle spent the rest of his life surrounded by loved ones. Sadly, Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Alf and Ruth Hougen; and his stepdaughter, Deidra Kay Duffney (Guzman). He is survived by his sister, Kathy Rothermel; her daughter, Melissa Biernacinski and family; his children, Tanja Hougen, Westley Hougen, and Jessica Pulver; along with their spouses and children. Lyle leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Please feel free to reach out to the family for more information.
Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Lyle online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
