
The Lady Pirates volleyball squad welcomed the Wasatch Academy Tigers to Green River on Thursday night. The Pirates were coming off a loss to Grand County on Wednesday. In the game with the Tigers, every set was kept close but in the end, the Lady Pirates earned a straight set win 3-0.
Heading into the game with Wasatch Academy, Green River had lost its last two matches. On October 15, they lost 3-1 against Dugway, then on the next day, they were in Moab and lost in straight sets to Grand. The Pirates sit at 3-10 overall and 1-6 in the region. The RPI has been removed from public view until Wednesday when the final rankings will be released along with the bracket for the 1A State Volleyball Championships.
On Thursday all three matches were very competitive, the first set went to Green River by the score of 25-18. In the second set, the two teams battled back-and-forth with the Pirates earning a hard-fought 25-21 win.
The third set was not as close as the other two but was still not an easy win for Green River 25-16 as they closed out Wasatch Academy in straight sets, 3-0.
Rosa Barragan collected 20 digs in the match and added four service aces for Green River. Jess Norman had eight digs and seven kills, and Haylie Nelson had seven assists and six digs in the win.
Green River closes out the regular season on Tuesday when they travel to Price to face the Pinnacle Panthers.
Back on October 7, the Panthers came to Green River and the Lady Pirates earned a 3-2 win.
