004-15

Last Saturday, the Lady Panther volleyball squad opened play in the 1A State Volleyball Championships by welcoming the Dugway Mustangs to the Pinnacle gym in Price. The Panthers came out and won the first set but then dropped the second, after that it was all Pinnacle as they closed out the Mustangs 3-1 to move on in the playoffs.

Pinnacle entered the opening-round matchup in the No.16 spot and battled their way through the opening set to take a close 25-23 win over No. 17 Dugway. The Mustangs would come back in set two earning a win by the same 25-23 score.

In the third set,  the Mustangs were not ready to give up as they pushed the Panthers who were able to eventually get the win another close one, 25-22. The fourth and final set was all about the Lady Panthers as they had finally worn down Dugway taking the 25-15 set win and the match win 3-1.

Heather Kerr had another great game for the Panthers with 12 digs, six kills, and five service aces. Jazmyne Mullis collected nine kills and five service aces. Myleigh Petersen earned 11 digs and Orianna Manchester had nine assists in the win.

Next up is a trip to the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield for two days of volleyball where a win on Friday will move them into the quarterfinals and a loss will send them to the consolation bracket.

Pinnacle will face the No. 1 seeded Valley Buffalos, who enter the championships with a 17-6 overall record.

Gametime is set for 3:30 p.m. and the game can be streamed on kslsports.com.
