The Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is traditionally celebrated each year on Nov. 1 and 2. It’s a day for people to gather together and celebrate loved ones who have passed on. In Castle Country, Four Corners Community Behavioral Health is hosting an event in conjunction with the celebration to raise awareness for multicultural resources.
Castle Country Radio was joined by FCCBH Disparities Officer Aurelio Rodriguez to gain a more in-depth understanding of the event.
Speaking on the resources that will be present at the event, Rodriguez explained,” We’ll have over 15 resource booths available. Some of the more familiar ones that people might know of are the Care Coalition from Four Corners. We’ll have Life Balance Recovery and Extension from USU. But some of the ones that are coming from out of town include Latino Behavioral Health Services, Comunidad Materna, which is a maternity organization for women, for all women, but specifically for Latino women, and also Asian Association of Utah that works specifically with refugees and asylees from not only from Asian countries, but from all over the place,” he continued,” this is open to everyone to come in and see what’s out there, what resources are available. So if you have any friends or family that are Latino or only speak Spanish or want to know what’s out there for them specifically, definitely come out and check out some of these organizations.”
The event serves more than just a resource fair, as it will also serve as a Dia de los Muertos celebration. “I’m excited to have partnered this year with the Southeast Utah Health Department and also the Ascension St. Matthew’s Church to bring on the Multicultural Resource Fair … We’re also going to have a face painting with Pebble the Clown. We’re going to have balloon animals with Norella, who is a member there at Ascension St. Matthews and a trivia game,” explained Rodiguez,” and then to close up our fair, we’re going to have the Ambassadors for Hope Choir performing, and then Pastor Angela from the Church is going to have a memorial service for Day of the Dead to close us off.”
Attendees of the fair will also receive a free meal courtesy of Angel’s Cravings and Crysty’s Tamales.
In closing Rodriguez shared,” I’m just excited to see everyone. Come and learn about the Day of the Dead. Maybe you’re not too familiar with what this tradition is about. Come learn about the resources, come enjoy some great food from local vendors, and come remember those that have passed on in the last year.”
The FCCBH Multicultural Resource Fair will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Ascension St. Matthews Church located at 522 Homestead Blvd. in Price. For more information, you can find FCCBH on Facebook or their website.
