The Carbon High School Volleyball team traveled to Utah Valley University on Friday, Nov. 1, to compete in the 3a State Tournament. It was here where the Dinos would conclude their season, losing straight matches before being eliminated from the postseason.

Match One

To open the tournament, Carbon would be matched up with the number three-ranked Union Cougars. The two teams had previously met in the season opener, where the Cougars came away with a 3-1 victory. In the opening set, Union would boat race the Dinos, pulling ahead early and not looking back en route to a 25-13 win.

Sets two and three would prove to be much more competitive. In the second set Carbon would go blow-for-blow with the third-seeded Cougars, but would fade in the closing points with Union defeating the Dinos 25-19.

The third and final set would follow much of the same pattern, with a late rally from the Dinos falling just short as the Cougars would take the set 25-23 and the match 3-0, knocking Carbon out of the winners’ bracket.

Match Two

Falling to the one-loss bracket, the Dinos would match up with the Ogden Tigers. This match marked the first meeting between the two teams. The Tigers would come out swinging, beating down the Dinos’ defense and claiming the first set 25-15.

Carbon would bounce back in set two, strengthening their defensive effort and utilizing a potent offensive attack, the Dinos forced a winner-take-all third set.

With neither team wanting to go home, both teams would battle, not wanting the other to move on in their stead. In a back-and-forth affair, Ogden would emerge victorious, taking the set 25-21 and the match 2-1.

Carbon ends the season with an 8-21 overall record. In region play, the Dinos finished seventh and held a record of 3-11.

Castle Country Radio would like to congratulate Carbon on their excellent season and wish the seniors of the team good luck in their future endeavors.
