Michael E. Shumway, 76, of Sunnyside, UT, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2024, at his home surrounded by family.
He was born in Price, UT, on January 7, 1948, to the late William and Cloris Shumway. He is survived by the love of his life, Sheila (Rauhala) Shumway; four children, 14 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; and his best buddies, Tux and Chewy.
Dad proudly served in the United States Air Force, where he spent time in Vietnam. He then found himself back in his hometown where he worked at the coal mine while his family grew. Dad eventually found himself working in a different aspect of the mining world when he became an MSHA mine inspector, until he retired.
Dad loved to travel with mom and their dogs, whether it was riding with friends on their side-by-sides or fishing at Scofield. He loved being on Bruin Mountain as often as he could. Dad shared many stories of his adventures on the mountain with his family and friends. These stories will be treasured by everyone.
One of his favorite titles was “Grandpa!” We are all better people because of the examples that he taught us. We have so many great memories with him, from Johnny Cash to playing in the snow and eating the chili and hot chocolate that he loved to make for us to keep us warm!
He was truly the rock of our family and will be greatly missed.
