Fundraising can be a pain, a word that can strike fear into the hearts of participants. But, often these fundraisers end up being a fantastic time for organizers and attendees alike. This is the goal for the Soroptimist International of Price, creating a wonderful experience for attendees while also raising money to aid girls and women in the community through their 51st annual charity benefit which will be held on Friday, Nov. 22.

Terry Willis from the organization sat down with Castle Country Radio to provide a more in-depth look at the event.

“The Soroptimist International is a women’s service organization with our focus on improving the lives of women and girls in our community and throughout the world,” explained Willis of the group,” as most people know, our fundraiser is wine tasting. The club itself has been around since 1954 and this is our 51st year of wine tasting. So I think it’s one of the longest-running events in Carbon County.”

Diving into more details, Willis stated,” This will be held on Nov. 22, which is a Friday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Carbon Country Club. It includes a full-course meal, hors d’oeuvres, and wine tasting. And we’ve got another special thing we’re doing this year. And we will have a helper beer tasting for those of you who would rather have beer than wine. So we are looking forward to that and supporting our local business.”

Tickets for the event cost $60, but all proceeds stay local,” our main program that we do is called the ‘Live Your Dream Grant Program’. And we generally give the award to between two to five women in our area who are the head of their household and going back to school to improve their education for themselves and their families … This money does improve so many lives and we follow up with those women. And when they get through their education and move on, several of them have come back and joined our organization and helped give back even more.”

In addition to food, the fundraiser also plays host to several fundraising games such as silent auctions, a door prize drawing and a 50-50 board,” the 50-50 board is fun because you buy a space on the board for $10 and in the end we call a number and you get 50% of the proceeds. And I want to say it’s about $500 that you win off that. So it’s just a fun little way to continue adding to our fundraising event.”
