Edwin Norman “Norm” Daniel Hansen, age 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home in Spring Glen, Utah on Friday, November 15, 2024.
Norm was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 19, 1938 to Edwin Harper and Ruth Mable White Hansen. In high school, he was a runner and excellent boxer. He graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelors in business management and served 32 years in the United States Military: 12 years active duty in the Navy (enlisted at 17yo), then 20 years in the Air Force where he retired as Chief Master Sergeant. Norm concurrently served 25 years in the Salt Lake City Fire Department where he retired as Captain. In retirement, Norm loved managing his farm.
Known affectionately by friends as Ed, “Stormin’ Norman,” “The END,” and “Motor Mouth,” Norm was the ultimate jack of all trades and could do any project from woodworking to cement, electrical to mechanical. He remodeled an old farm into a beautiful property and home. He also loved rebuilding old vehicles: his biggest project was an old firetruck that he donated to the Grantsville Fire Museum. People would bring him all sorts of projects and he would help anyone who needed it. He always wanted to be out doing something.
Norm was a gunsmith (loved reloading and making his own bullets) and hunter, hunting deer, wolves, and bears from Alaska to Montana. He loved going to the shooting range with family. Norm loved his Bassett hounds and cat named Tiger. He loved his family deeply: his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids especially. He was very close to his nieces and nephews as well. He loved being on the farm with its beauty, peace, and quietness.
Norm is survived by his loving wife, Marjean Hansen, and four children, Randy (Nancy) Hansen, Cheryll (Blair) Treu, Denman Hansen, and Larry Vojtecky, 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as honorary family, Marty, Debby, and Kathy Ricks, and beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Ruth, sisters, Roberta, Pearl, and Judy, son, Edwin Hansen, granddaughter, Kara, and dear friends, Ken and Myra Ricks.
The family would like to a give a special thank you to Dr. Sterling Potter for all the years he took care of Norm, and to the Community Nursing Services for their loving care and compassion during Norm’s final days.
