The holiday season brings family and friends together, providing warmth during an otherwise cold season. As a part of these gatherings, many like to travel around their community and gaze at Christmas light displays. One local fixture that always turns heads is the planters on Price Main Street. In the summer, these pots are filled with breathtaking displays of flowers, but in the winter months, they are transformed into dazzling displays of light.

This year brings change however, typically these planters were reserved for businesses who reside in the downtown area, but now thanks to the city’s ‘Deck The Planter’ event, more businesses will have the opportunity to show off their holiday spirit. As a part of this event, Price City is inviting 10 businesses from outside of the main street area to get involved with the festivities.

“This is a chance for other local businesses to support our downtown area and help make Price an even more magical place for the many visitors and locals who come to enjoy the holiday festivities,” said Megan Marshall, Price City’s event coordinator in a press release,” Here’s how it works: Each participating business will adopt one of 10 selected planters on Main Street and decorate it in their most festive theme. Decorations can match the business, feature a holiday character or movie, or simply be a stunning Christmas display. Solar-powered lighting is encouraged since no power is available at the planters. Inexpensive options can be found on Amazon. The decorated planters will be showcased on social media, and the public will vote for their favorite! This is a fantastic way for businesses to gain visibility and recognition while contributing to our community.”

Participation in this event is free to businesses; the only cost associated is the decorations for the planter. “It’s also a great opportunity for businesses to show their holiday spirit and give back in a meaningful way,” reads the release.

For Megan, the goal is about more than just decorations. “It’s not just about making Main Street look incredible— even though it will,” she laughed. “It’s about creating a sense of community and showing appreciation for the businesses that make downtown special. This is a way for everyone to come together and support each other in a really festive, creative way.”

Voting will happen online, with details to be announced on the Price City website and social media soon. Businesses are encouraged to snag one of the 10 available planters while they can. Decorations will need to be removed by January 6, 2025, but Megan assures us the process is simple and inexpensive, with solar lights as an option for added nighttime sparkle.

“It shows that the city wants to make our businesses survive,” spoke Price City Mayor Micheal Kourianos,” in this culture, it is so hard for independent business owners. So whatever we can do as a partner to those businesses is something that we feel obligated to do.”

Space is limited to 10 planters, so interested businesses should sign up as soon as possible. To register, you can email events@priceutah.com.
