The Lady Spartans basketball squad returned to the court on Tuesday, traveling to Monroe to face the South Sevier Rams. South Sevier started fast and never looked back handing Emery the 70-46 loss.

Emery ended last season with a 14-8 overall record and held the No. 5 spot in the final RPI. The Lady Spartans fought their way to the finals at last year’s State Championships falling to Richfield 56-49. South Sevier lost to Beaver in the 2A quarterfinals last season. Both teams are projected to finish third in their respective regions this season.

The Rams jumped out to a lead in the first quarter putting up 19, Emery was able to create some offense putting up 12. It was in the second quarter that South Sevier did the most damage and created some distance, outscoring the Spartans 23-10 and building a 42-22 lead going to the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter, Emery came out determined and played the Rams even, with each team putting up 14 in the quarter. Moving to the fourth, South Sevier slowed down their pace from quarter two and would put up 14 again while holding the Lady Spartans to 10, and taking the 70-46 win.

Sydnee Patterson and Kinley Jensen led the way for the Rams leading all scorers with 20 points a piece.

Katelyn Nielson and KaBree Gordon led the Spartans with nine each and Aleeyah Cowley chipped in seven points in the Emery loss.

The Lady Spartans head back to the floor on Thursday when they travel to Roosevelt for the Union tournament. They will face the host team, the Union Cougars, and then will wrap up on Friday when they take on the Uintah Utes.

They will be at the Spartan Center for the first time on Tuesday when Beaver comes to town. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m..
